Building the next generation of leaders for marriage, family, and sexual integrity

Robert P. George – Faith, Sex, and Freedom: What People of Faith can Expect in a Revisionist Marriage Culture

Professor George will discuss the threats posed by the legal recognition of same-sex partnerships as “marriages,” especially when combined with “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” (SOGI) laws, to religious freedom and basic rights of conscience. These threats are in the domains of employment, accreditation of educational institutions, licensing, and government contracting. He will also address the use of economic and cultural power to stigmatize and marginalize defenders of chastity and conjugal understanding of marriage and bully them into acquiescence or silence. He will highlight the need for courage in bearing witness to the truth about marriage and sexual integrity, and the importance of effective advocacy in the cultural and political spheres.

Dr. Robert P. George is McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. He has also taught at Harvard Law School. He is Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and has served on the President’s Council on Bioethics and as a presidential appointee to the U.S. Commission of Human Rights. He was a Judicial Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States, where he received the Justice Tom C. Clark Award. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Swarthmore College, he holds degrees in law and theology from Harvard and a doctorate in philosophy of law from Oxford University, in addition to many honorary degrees. He is a recipient of the U.S. Presidential Citizens Medel and the Honorary Medal for the Defense of Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, and is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
