Brown’s Newest Student Group, ‘Unhooked,’ Makes Its Debut On Campus

by the Unhooked Officer Team

While some of you might have been strategizing how to ask your crush out or planning the perfect “level one” date for Valentine’s Day weekend, Unhooked at Brown spent Friday, February 12th, cozied up in a classroom for our inaugural event on campus— a Roman Holiday movie screening. In order to kick-off our group’s presence at Brown, we welcomed members of the community to come watch this classic romantic movie, enjoy Valentine’s Day snacks, and get to know about our new student group.

Professors, graduate students, and fellow undergrads came to this event and shared in moments of laughter, joy, and even frustration as we watched this timeless romance unfold. Although the focus of the event was the screening, the best part of the evening was getting to know one another through conversations before and after the film. Amid talk of Audrey Hepburn, Valentine’s Day, and impending midterms, we were able to explain the mission of Unhooked and invite others to join us for general body meetings throughout the semester.

This light-hearted event represents a promising start to Unhooked at Brown’s presence in the community. We plan to continue connecting with our peers and spreading LFN’s mission through similar social events and also through general body meetings that will allow students to explore alternatives to the hook-up culture.
